Chverchko

Lois M. Chverchko, 99, Patton, passed away Monday at Garvey Manor Nursing Home, Hollidaysburg. She was born in Westover, the last surviving member of the George and Besse (Kitchen) Barto family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband, Henry Chverchko, who died Feb. 13, 2012; sisters: Doris Kelly Gearhart, Margaret Roland and Shirley Fry; and brothers, Darrell and Robert Barto.

Surviving are daughters: Joy Nagle (Ralph) of Patton, Patricia Miller (Gary) of Ashville and Linda Van Scoyoc (Dennis) of Tyrone; seven grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grand-children.

A devout Catholic who lived her life guided by her deep faith, Lois was the oldest member of St. Augustine Catholic Church. She was a member of the Altar & Rosary Society, enjoyed being active at church events and looked forward to the annual picnic each summer.

At home, she filled her time completing word books, sometimes two a day, and puzzles. Trips to the Sight and Sound Theater and the annual Dickens of a Christmas Celebration in Ebensburg were among her favorite outings, but just being out-and-about with her daughters was a regular delight. Above all, Lois was happiest in her role as wife, mother and grandmother. She loved her children and their families deeply and made them her priority. She will be deeply missed.

Family and friends will be received from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Friday, May 23, 2025, at St. Augustine Church. A funeral Mass will follow at 11 a.m. with Father Robert Reese officiating. Committal will be made at the church cemetery.

Arrangements are by Moriconi Funeral Home Inc., 1303 Bigler Ave., Northern Cambria.
