James M. "Jim" Mattas II, 78, State College, died early Sunday morning at Geisinger Medical Center, Danville.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late James M. I and Dorothy (Shute) Mattas. On Dec. 3, 1984, he married Cheryl A. Coffman at Trinity United Methodist Church, Bellwood.
Surviving are his wife, Cheryl; three children: Jamie L. Mattas-Plowman, James M. III "JT" (Melissa) Mattas and Justin L. Mattas; six grandchildren: Abigail, Alexis, Emilee and Joshua Starr and Madison and Charlie Mattas; and four brothers: Jeffrey, Dennis, Todd and Scott Mattas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas.
Jim was co-owner of Mattas Motorsports and had been in the car business for over 60 years. He proudly served in the U.S. Marine Corps Reserves.
His passion in life was riding motorcycles, especially going on cross-country adventures and trips to Florida. He enjoyed playing golf and collecting cowboy boots.
Jim's greatest joy was spending time with his beloved grandchildren.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2025, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, May 9, 2025, at the funeral home, Pastor Greg Milinovich officiating.
