Walter B. Ake, 97, of Altoona, passed away Saturday morning, April 12, 2025, at his son’s home.

He was born in Williamsburg, son of the late Homer N. and Beatrice M. (Clabaugh) Ake.

Surviving are two children, Ann M. Cappetta (Michael) of Galena, Ohio, and a son, Todd D. Ake of Altoona; three grandchildren: Morgan Cappetta, Austin Cappetta and Hunter Ake (Cassandra Simpson); a great-grandson, Henry Ake, whom he really enjoyed; and a sister, Wilma J. Miller of Martinsburg.

He was preceded in death by three brothers: Nelson, Earl and Harry Ake.

Walter was a 1946 graduate of Williamsburg High School. He was a U.S. Army veteran, serving during the Korean War. He owned and operated State Garage in Altoona for over 25 years.

Walter was a 50-year member of the American Legion and also a member of Heidelberg Country Club and Park Hills Country Club. Walter loved animals, playing the piano and going to breakfast with the guys. He also enjoyed doing small projects around his home and was a true handyman.

A private graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Arrangements are by John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg.
