Thomas Leo Storm

Thomas Leo Storm, 78, of Lewistown, passed away March 17, 2025. He was born in Gallitzin Township, son of the late Charles Edward Storm and Gertrude Mary (Gallagher) Storm. He was the ninth of 13 children.

Tom was a member of the inaugural graduating class of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School in Ebensburg. While a student at Lock Haven State College, he met Janet Shuey. They were married at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Lock Haven on Aug. 23, 1969.

Moving to Janet's hometown of Lewistown, he spent more than 30 years operating Storm Carpet Service. He then spent 22 years as the maintenance supervisor at Sacred Heart Catholic Parish, where he was also a member. After retirement, he enjoyed developing relationships with the Amish community.

Though he spent his adult life in the Juniata Valley, his heart never left the Laurel Highlands.

Tom is survived by his wife, Janet; and five children: Mary Storm-Baranyai and husband, Jozsef Baranyai IV, of Newark, Del.; Michael Storm of Philadelphia; Joseph Storm and wife, Norah, of McClure; Anne Storm and husband, Matthew Kroh, of Pittsburgh; and Emily Storm of Chester, Conn.; three grandchildren: Chloe Boreman of Belleville, Owen Storm of Lemoyne and Jozsef Baranyai V of Newark, Del.; sisters: Dorothy Fleming; Lois Simanski and husband, Edward; Janet Durbin and husband, H. Hampton; Rita Burgoon and husband, Fred; Sheila Bottenfield and husband, Randall; and Cynthia Storm and husband, Keith Van Blargan; sisters-in-law, Audrey Storm and Verna Storm; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a sister, LaRue Grimes; brothers: Robert, Donald, Charles, Norman and Francis; and brothers-in-law: Hayden Grimes, James Fleming and David McCarter.

His remains will be laid to rest in his hometown of Ashville, in the Saint Thomas Cemetery, just a few miles from where he was born, baptized and confirmed.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Saint Thomas Aquinas Catholic Church, Ashville.
