Richard E. Miner

Nov. 21, 1927 – April 15, 2025

Richard E. Miner, 97, of Altoona, passed away Tuesday evening at his home. He was born at home in Logan Township, son of the late John Wesley and Esther Grace (Sell) Miner.

On April 11, 1970, he married Mary Agnes Strobel.

In addition to his wife, Mary; he is survived by his daughter, Rebecca Bouchard and husband, Matthew, of Duncansville; two grandsons, Aidan Bouchard and wife, Kristen, of Boalsburg and Garrett Bouchard at home; two sisters, Mary Catherine Bickel and Esther Juanita Lee; a sister-in-law, Patricia Ann Strobel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by an infant son; and two brothers, William and David Miner.

Richard was proud of the many projects he contributed to throughout his work as a welder and pipe fitter, such as Three Mile Island and other nuclear power plants. Richard retired on Dec. 31, 1993, from Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 354 with 63 years of service.

He was the longest active member of Asbury United Methodist Church.

Richard was also a member of American Legion Post 424 and Blair County Antique Car Club, where he enjoyed showing his 1959 Ford Thunderbird.

His youthful adventures included earning a commercial pilot's license, building and sailing his sailboat, water skiing and riding his Indian motorcycle (with sidecar). He enjoyed woodworking, NASCAR, working on his property and was an avid newspaper reader.

As a veteran of World War II, he served two years in the U.S. Navy and four years in the U.S. Navy Reserves.

Family and friends will be received from 3 to 6 p.m. Thursday, April 24, 2025, at Mauk & Yates Funeral Home Inc., 719 N. Fourth Ave., Altoona.

Family and friends will also be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Friday, April 25, 2025, at the funeral home, followed by the funeral service at 11 a.m. Interment will be made at Asbury Cemetery, Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Asbury United Methodist Church, 107 Asbury Lane, Altoona, PA 16601; or to Family Hospice, 20 Sheraton Drive, Altoona, PA 16601.
