John R. Smeltzer, 85, of Hollidaysburg, went to be with the Lord on Friday. He was born in Martinsburg, son of the late Wilbert and Ruth (Shriver) Smeltzer.
He married Dianne Proctor in 1993.
Surviving are his loving wife of 32 years; two children, Kevin Smeltzer of Bedford and Wendy Linthicum in Germany; four stepchildren: Melissa Viego of Hollidaysburg, Dena Wychulis in Maryland, Joe Zangrilli and wife, Nancy, of Phoenixville and Jason Zangrilli and wife, Susan, of Hollidaysburg; and 11 grandchildren: Jacqueline, Joshua, Matthew, Cat, Lilly, John, Joe, Jonah, Sophia, Maddie and Andrew.
John was a 1958 graduate of Morrisons Cove High School, where he loved to play sports and excelled in basketball.
He retired from Appleton Paper Co. after being a dedicated employee for over 40 years.
John was a faithful member of Grace Bible Church in Hollidaysburg, where he enjoyed spending time with the guys on Wednesday mornings tackling any job that needed done and was always available to help anyone.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Family Hospice of Altoona, for the loving care they provided. Special thanks to Heather, Carol and Laura for their compassion in caring for John.
Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Grace Bible Church, Hollidaysburg, where a memorial service will immediately follow at 11 a.m. with Pastor Lou Hileman officiating.
Private interment will be at Alto-Reste Park.
