Janet E. Blattenberger

Janet E. Blattenberger, 82, Martinsburg, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, April 27, 2025, at her home.

She was born in Woodbury, daughter of the late Ray C. and M. Romaine (Frederick) Teeter. On Oct. 10, 1964, she married Kenneth R. Blattenberger at Woodbury Church of God, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 30, 2020, after 55 years of marriage.

Surviving are a sister, Lois R. Steward of Roaring Spring; a sister-in-law, Sally Blattenberger of rural Martinsburg; two nieces, Pamela Mauk (Joe) and Wanda Black; two nephews, Scott Steward (Sherri) and Rodney Clapper (Deanna); eight great-nieces and nephews; 12 great-great-nieces and nephews; and many loved cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by a sister, Patricia A. Clapper; three brothers-in-law: Jesse "Sonny" Steward, Melvin Clapper and James Blattenberger; and a nephew, Allen Clapper.

Janet was a 1960 graduate of Northern Bedford County High School. In addition to assisting her husband Ken as bookkeeper for their dairy farm for 30 years, she also worked at the New Enterprise Stone & Lime Co. Inc. main office, E.F. Smith Trucking, United Telephone Co., A. Lloyd Steele Plumbing and Heating and Long's Outpost.

She served 10 years on the Spring Cove school board; six years on the Martinsburg Borough Council; was a former member of the Cove

Community Chorus; and acted as a clerk and judge of election for many years at various polling places. Janet was a previous member of Woodbury Church of God and for many years attended Clover Creek Church of the Brethren.

She loved her family, church and friends, and singing in the church choir. Janet liked going to auctions, visiting Lancaster County, working in her flowers, being a homemaker and watching sports, especially the Pittsburgh Pirates, Pittsburgh Steelers and college basketball.

Friends will be received from 9 to 11 a.m., Thursday, May 1, 2025, at Clover Creek Church of the Brethren, where a funeral service will begin at 11 a.m., Pastor Barbara Hammond officiating. Interment will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.

Contributions in Janet's memory may be given to Bare Memorial Church of God, 508 E. Main St., Roaring Spring; or Morrisons Cove Memorial Park, 201 S. Walnut St., Martinsburg.
