David Lewis Gingerich

July 1, 1929 – April 9, 2025

David Lewis Gingerich, 95, died April 9, 2025, at Cedarwood Preserve, Tyrone. He was born in Tyrone, a son of the late Carl Lewis and Dorothy (Miller) Gingerich.

He married Joan Kissell, who died Jan. 24, 2022.

David is survived by a son, David Lewis Gingerich Jr. of Altoona; daughter, Darlene Baisden (Bruce) in Alabama; son, Carl William Gingerich of Tyrone; son, Michael Scott Gingerich in Connecticut; grandchildren: Sergis Gingerich (Sara), Emilie Holman (Mike), Jonathan Gingerich, Christine Gingerich, Tim Gingerich and Joe Gingerich; and seven great-grandchildren.

He was also preceded in death by a son, Timothy J. Gingerich; a sister, Aline Folckemer; and a brother, Richard Lee Gingerich.

David was a graduate of Altoona High School in 1947 and served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Era.

He was a pioneer in sonar taping and radar specialty projects for the military after WWII. He then worked at F.L. Smith Co. as an engineer and worked at several envelope companies.

A graveside service will be held at noon Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Arch Spring Presbyterian Cemetery, with Pastor Russell Reese officiating. A Celebration of Life memorial will follow at the Epworth Manor Community Room.
