Betty J. (Mohler) Schraff

Aug. 24, 1931 – April 9, 2025

Betty J. (Mohler) Schraff, 93, of Altoona, passed away Wednesday afternoon at UPMC Altoona. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Jim and Betty (Covert) Mohler.

She married Charles W. "Bill" Schraff on July 9, 1949, at St. Mark's Catholic Church. Bill preceded her in death in 2005.

Surviving are her son John "Butch" and wife, Ellen Schraff, of Altoona; a daughter, Kathie and husband, Michael Pastore, of Altoona; six grandchildren: Brent, Michael II

(Amanda), Matthew, Carley (Christian), Scott (Sarah) and Craig; 10 great-grandchildren: Aidan, Michael III, Leah, Isabella, Parker, Madelyn, Will, Colin, Henry and Chloe; a sister, Doris Jean Mohler of Altoona; a sister-in-law, Judith (Rabenstein) and husband, Robert Halbritter, of Duncansville; many nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

She was preceded in death by a daughter, Cynthia; a brother, Jimmy; and a sister-in-law, Carol (Rabenstein).

Betty was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church. She was the secretary for 50 years at Lourdes and retired in 2013. She was also the cheerleader advisor at Our Lady of Lourdes for 35 years. Betty volunteered and served on various committees and organizations and was a member of Red Hats and Christian Mothers.

She enjoyed attending family gatherings, playing cards, being with her friends and attending her grandchildren's sporting events. Betty was known for her infamous "Candy Bag" that she brought to all sporting events.

Friends will be received from 3 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 14, 2025, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil service will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 2700 Broad Ave., Altoona, with the Rev. Father Dennis Kurdziel and the Rev. Father James Dugan, co-celebrants. Committal rites will be held at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
