Barry Mitchell Sloter, 63, Altoona, passed away peacefully Friday at his home after a prolonged illness and lifetime of medical battles.
He was born in Bradford, son of the late Wayne and Alma (Meadows) Sloter.
On May 25, 1991, he married Dorothy Marie Horton at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Altoona.
Surviving are his wife; a son, Skyler (Angela) of Tyrone; his brother, Stanley (Jolene) of Bethesda, Md.; a sister, Terrie Persun of Altoona; two sisters-in-law, Tammy (Todd) Stine and Sue Horton, both of Altoona; a brother-in-law, Travis Myers of Altoona; nieces and nephew: Liz, Melissa, Phyllis (Santini), Andrea, Kelsey and Korey; three great-nephews and a great-niece; and his fur-baby, Rosie.
He was a 1981 graduate of Altoona Area High School.
Barry was a beloved husband of 33 years, father, brother and uncle, but to many, he was "Coach Barry." For more than 20 years, Barry volunteered his time coaching and mentoring the youth of Altoona. He was an inspiration to many on his baseball, basketball and flag football teams.
An avid Pittsburgh sports fanatic, he was also known for his love of the Los Angeles Rams. Barry's love of bowling led him to finding the love of his life, his wife, Dorothy. During the summers, you could find Barry and Dorothy in section #208 at the Curve stadium.
There was nothing Barry loved more than sports, scratch-offs and his cherished family.
Family and friends will be received from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday, May 2, 2025, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood. A funeral service will be held at 7 p.m. Friday at the funeral home, Pastor Vince Eilenberger officiating. Interment will be at Logan Valley Cemetery, Bellwood.
