Barbara Ann (Bell) Woods, 83, of Altoona, passed away Friday evening at her residence after a courageous three-year battle with cancer. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late David Albert and Esther (Miller) Bell.

She married Frederick Woods on June 13, 1964, at St. Therese of the Child Jesus Catholic Church.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband of 60 years; her three children: Dr. Timothy G. Woods, MD (Beverly) of Gambrills, Md., James M. Woods (Heidi) of Eldersburg, Md., and Theresa L. "Teri" Taylor (John "JT") of Bowie, Md.; six grandchildren: Isabel, Matthew, Jack, Ali, JD and Justin; her brother, Richard Bell in Florida; a special cousin, who was more like a sister, Jean Ann Mitchell of Altoona; two sisters-in-law, Therese Woods of Erie and Mary Edna Stetter of Minneapolis, Minn.; many, many nieces, nephews and cousins; as well as her dear friend, Diane Speece.

Barbara was preceded in death by Janet Bell, Richard and Ann Woods, James Woods, Nourine and Bob Woods, Frank Woods, Chris Woods and Kasey (Bell) Phillips.

She was a 1959 graduate of Altoona High School and in 1992, she received her associate degree in accounting from Mount Aloysius College.

Barbara retired from Temple Beth Israel after 20 years as their office administrator and had previously worked in the State Department in Washington, D.C.

She was always volunteering her time with the Cub Scouts, Brownies and Girl Scouts. Barbara enjoyed teaching English as a second language. She sat on the St. Mark's Parish Council and gave of her time helping prepare taxes for the elderly at Blair Senior Services Center, which she loved doing.

Friends will be received from 2 to 6 p.m. Monday, April 21, 2025, at The Stevens Mortuary Inc., 1421 Eighth Ave., Altoona, where a vigil for the deceased will be held.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2025, at St. Mark's Catholic Church, 416 Sixth Ave., Altoona, with Father Nelson Javier, celebrant. Committal will be held at Calvary Cemetery.
