Feb. 6, 1943 – March 12, 2025

O'Connor

Thomas A. “Pork” O’Connor, 82, of Hollidaysburg, peacefully passed away Wednesday morning at The Village of Morrisons Cove, Martinsburg. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Cyril R. and Catherine (Murphy) O’Connor.

In 1965, he married Marylee Everhart.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 60 years, Marylee; his son, Bryan (Michele) O’Connor in Maryland; his daughter, Michelle (Freddi) Helsel in Delaware; and his four grandchildren: Tyler (Kayla) Helsel, Conner Helsel, Catherine O’Connor and Alec O’Connor. He is also survived by his three brothers: Tim (Susie) O’Connor, Robert O’Connor and Michael (Debbie) O’Connor, all of Altoona; as well as many cherished nieces and nephews.

Thomas was preceded in death by his sister, Maureen O’Connor; his brother, Patrick O’Connor; and his sister-in-law, Mary Ellen O’Connor.

A 1962 graduate of Altoona High School, Thomas proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS Arcadia, achieving the rank of E-3 Seaman. Following his military service, with the support of his wife, he briefly attended a trade school in Tyrone for tool and die. Pork became a successful self-taught tool and die maker, sharing his extensive knowledge of mold making and consulting with companies such as Proctor Silex, Jensen of Punxsutawney, Blair Tool and Plastic and his own company, OContech.

Thomas had a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing and camping. His many talents were evident when he built his own home with his father. He had a passion for driving; whether visiting family or commuting to work, he loved being behind the wheel. Most of all, Pork cherished the time he spent with his family, especially his grandchildren.

He was a former member of First United Methodist Church, where he served on numerous committees, and a member of the Saint Stanislaus Kostka Brotherhood in Altoona.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no viewing. A service will be held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association, P.O. Box 61420, Staten Island, NY 10306; or the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 840692, Dallas, TX 75284-0692.
