Robert P. “Bob” Otto, 82, of Altoona, passed away peacefully in his home early Thursday morning. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Russell Albert and Mary Elizabeth (Zeek).
Robert married Yangsun Adon Walters on June 4, 1983, in Altoona. They shared 38 loving years together before she passed away on March 1, 2021.
Surviving are a sister, Mary Ester (Betty); three daughters: Christie L. Villano, Maria A. Bolger and Susan Grassmyer; a son, Todd Otto; and nine grandchildren: Jenna Bolger, Alec Bolger, Nick Villano, Marissa Villano, Rio Grassmyer, Dayton Grassmyer, Oaklee Grassmyer, Cooper Otto and Tenley Otto.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Yangsun Otto; his brothers: Paul, Russell, Virgil and Bernard; his sisters, Irene Frederick and Loretta O’ Keith; his son-in-law, Craig Bolger; and his beloved dog, Princess.
Robert was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was known for his straightforward approach, strong work ethic, integrity and willingness to help anyone in need. He was known to have a tough exterior, but underneath, he was very kind and had a heart of gold.
He joined and served in the United States Navy as a Seabee from 1968-70. He was a utilities service mechanic and completed two tours in the Vietnam War. He earned the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with the Fleet Marine Combat Operations, Vietnam Campaign Medal and the Combat Action Ribbon.
Robert worked at SKF in Altoona as a ball bearing technician and retired after 37 years.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and his dog, Molly, whom he loved dearly. He loved fishing, hunting, dancing with his wife, taking long walks with his dog, Molly, and would often be seen sitting on his front porch drinking a Miller Lite. He was also a devoted fan and enjoyed watching the Pittsburgh Steelers, Pitt and Ohio State.
Robert will be deeply missed, but his spirit and kind heart will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations made to the Tunnels to Towers Foundation.
At Robert’s request, there will be a private family service. Entombment will take place at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
