Raymond "Poge" Bendon, 88 Gallitzin died Feb. 28, 2025 at James E. VanZandt Medical Center, Altoona. He was born in Gallitzin, the son of Clair and Anna (Shrokee) Bendon.
He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Deanna McConnell, on Nov. 11, 2013; grandson, Joseph Krawczyk; and brothers, Robert "Rusty" and James. He is survived by children: Colleen (Larry) Durkay, Patrick (Carla) McConnell, Molly Krawczyk, Kathleen Paul (Bruce) and Maureen (Matt) Keller; grandchildren, Tanya (Chad) Witmer, Zachery (Pricilla) McConnell, Ian McConnell, Chad Krawczyk (Marina), Brock Nagle (Lynette) and Kurtis Keller; and four great-grandchildren: Natalie and Peyton Witmer, Tristyn and Lillith McConnell; a special niece, Maria Bendon (Lou); and cousin, Norm Wyland.
Poge worked as a janitor for St. Demetrius Church, was a 1954 graduate of Gallitzin High School and a former member of Gallitzin American Legion. Poge loved golfing, cutting grass and making bug juice. At the request of the deceased, there will be no services.
A private committal will be held at the convenience of the family.
