George A. Snyder III, 72, Altoona, died Saturday evening, March 22, 2025, at Maybrook Hills Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center, Altoona, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late George A. Snyder Jr. and Angela D. (Kelley) Yingling.
He married Gary W. Sumpter on May 13, 2013, in Cumberland, Md., who preceded him in death Aug. 30, 2020.
Surviving are seven siblings: sister, Helen C. Strayer (Nella) of Summerhill; sister, Cheryl A. Clark (Bruce); sister, Patricia L. Georgiana (Denny); sister, Marie A. Porter; brother, Matthew L. Snyder (Pattie); sister, Jamie L. Scarangella (John), all of Altoona; and brother, Aric R. Snyder (Jess) of Alexandria; a special nephew, Christopher M. Snyder of Altoona; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family.
George was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, Jim Porter.
Mr. Snyder was a 1972 graduate of Bishop Guilfoyle Catholic High School, Altoona.
He retired as a professional truck driver from Sheetz in 2014. Previously, George was an independent owner/operator truck driver, hauling government contract loads.
He was a member of the Unter Uns Society and the Knights of Columbus, Altoona.
His greatest joy was spending time with his family.
Friends will be received from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, April 3, 2025, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Entombment will be made at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.
