It is with deep sadness that the family of Carrie Ann Thompson Lolas announces her passing on Nov. 6, 2024, in Florida, one of the many casualties of the U.S. pharmaceutical industry's opioid crisis, which began with their push to market highly addictive opioid painkillers. Thousands have died due to this negligence.
Carrie was born in Altoona, the daughter of Roderick Thompson and Dorothy (Tillett) Mitchell. She graduated from Hollidaysburg Area Senior High School in 1999.
She married James Lolas in the fall of 2003 at First Presbyterian Church, Altoona.
Carrie was the mother of four children: Kristian, Kaleb, Kaytlynn and Karsten, whom she loved deeply. They are her legacy. Her family was her life. But, without medical support or treatment for her illness, she lost everything near and dear to her. It is a story repeated too often for far too many.
Her father, Roderick Thompson; and her brother, Roddy, preceded Carrie in death.
She is survived by her husband; four children; her mother and stepfather, Mark; siblings: Danyelle, Sonya and Wesley; grandparents; and so many aunts, uncles and cousins that they are too numerous to list.
Carrie knew she was loved, especially by God. Even in dark, dangerous circumstances, she was an evangelist. She was honored to be called a "Jesus Freak" (A name she often used for her Gram Carol).
A service will be held at 1 p.m. Saturday, March 15, 2025, at Hope Community Church, by Pastor John Gray.
A joyous Celebration of Life is planned for Carrie's May birthday.
Her chains are gone. She's been set free. Allelujah!
