On May 13, 1961, he married Jane V. (Frick) Gottshall at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church in Altoona. Jane preceded him in death in 2022 after 61 years of marriage.
Surviving are his two daughters, Robin Weirich (Brad) of Hollidaysburg and Holly Bretzius (Jonathan) of Cary, N.C.; a son, Scott Gottshall (Tracey) of Duncansville; nine grandchildren: Zachary Weirich (Tyler), Matthew Weirich (Lindsay), Emily Gottshall, Drew Gottshall (Nichole Johns), Erica Gottshall, Natalie Bretzius, Olivia Bretzius, Grace Bretzius and Veronica Bretzius; two great-grandchildren, Ryan and Remi Weirich. He was preceded in death by his twin sister, Beverly Novitski; and brother, Richard Gottshall.
Ron was a 1953 graduate of Altoona High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. He also attended Penn State.
He was a devout Catholic and member of Saint Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg.
Ron retired in 1993 as a regional supervisor from Bank of America, having worked for more than 33 years in the finance industry. He was a mentor to many and it is wonderful to hear stories from past employees of what a kind and fair person he was.
Ron was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Allegheny Club, the Heidelberg and the American Legion. He spent his retirement years playing golf and playing cards with special friends and family. He was an avid Penn State fan and enjoyed attending and watching many games over the years. Most of all, he loved spending time with his family and grand dogs.
He was very proud of the family he and Jane created and often said that we were all so fortunate to have the strong family relationships that we have. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and friend to so many. He never said a negative thing about another person. He will be missed beyond words and remembered forever.
A funeral Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, 2025, at Saint Mary Catholic Church, Hollidaysburg, with Father Alan Thomas as celebrant. Interment will be at Green Lawn Cemetery, Hollidaysburg.
