Howard J. ‘Keppy’ Kephart

Howard J. "Keppy" Kephart, 87, of Bellwood, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday morning, Feb. 13, 2025, at James E. Van Zandt VA Medical Center, Altoona. He was born in Dysart, a son of the late Merle H. and Esther J. (Vincent) Kephart.

On Oct. 10, 1964, he married Rita L. Benner at Fifth Avenue Methodist Church, Altoona.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years; two children, Georgetta B. (Jim) Scales of Mount Airy, Md., and James (Lisa) Kephart of Altoona; his grandson, Brady Scales; a granddaughter, Devin Craig; and a brother, Burton Kephart.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Donald R.; and a sister, Ethel L. Kalal.

Keppy was a 1955 graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School and retired as a mason at Conrail.

He was a U.S. Army veteran having served during the Vietnam era.

He attended the former Calvary United Methodist Church, Bellwood, where he served as a deacon.

Keppy was a member of Bellwood Fraternal Order of Eagles and United Veterans Home Association.

A great outdoorsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing and golfing. Keppy was also a sports enthusiast, showing support to all Bellwood-Antis sports, UNC Tarheels basketball, along with being a great fan of Penn State, Pittsburgh Steelers and Cleveland Browns. He was an avid reader as well.

Above all, he was a beloved husband, father and grandfather who especially loved spending time with his family.

Friends will be received from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2025, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood. A service to celebrate his life, with military honors, will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, officiated by his brother, Pastor Burton Kephart.
