Elaine Marie Pletcher, 85, of Altoona, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, early Wednesday morning at Midtown Oaks Health and Rehab Center in Altoona. She was born in Claysburg, daughter of the late William H. and Elsie Helen (Jackman) Kovensky.
She married Melvin Pletcher in 1959.
Surviving are her daughter, Kathy Kephart; grandchildren, Lainey and Jordan Kephart; sister, Shirley Barras; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Melvin; daughters, Leslie and Mary Catherine; sisters: Helen Jones, Julie Ickes, Elizabeth Whitacre and Mary Lou Kovensky; and brothers, William A. and Leroy.
Elaine was a 1956 graduate of Williamsburg High School and later earned a business degree from the Altoona School of Commerce.
She spent many years working from home as a tax preparer, enabling her to care for her invalid daughter, Mary Catherine.
Elaine was a longtime member of Grace Bible Church in Altoona.
She was well-known as a founding member of the Gospel singing group, Amen Express, ministering in local churches and nursing homes.
Elaine loved serving God and others. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed reading, gardening and playing pinochle.
A memorial service will be held in the near future. Interment will be private.
