Richard A. “Dick” Johnston, 76, of Fort Wayne, Ind., passed away Thursday morning at Majestic Care of Jefferson Pointe in Fort Wayne. Dick was born in Altoona, to Harry A. and Velma L. (Fischer) Johnston. Both parents preceded him in death.
Dick graduated from Altoona Area High School in 1966, where he was a decorated multi-sport athlete, including All-American accolades in basketball. His talents enabled him to receive a full-ride scholarship to play basketball for the University of Tennessee for four years. After graduating from Tennessee with his bachelor’s degree in business, Dick worked for many years in Fort Wayne as an accountant, owning and operating his own accounting firm, Johnston Associates LLC.
Dick was an avid golfer and enjoyed cooking. He loved Penn State football and also followed all of the University of Tennessee sports teams. He was also a longtime member of the Fort Wayne Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Survivors include three children: Ashley (Austin) Long of Indianapolis, Ind., Greg (Nikole) Johnston of Hollidaysburg and Richard Johnston Jr. of Hollidaysburg; four grandchildren; and a brother, Bob (Judy) Johnston of Mint Hill, N.C.
In addition to his parents, Dick was preceded in death by a brother, Jim Johnston.
There are no public services planned at this time.
Arrangements are by Goodwin-Cale & Harnish Memorial Chapel in Bluffton, Ind.
