Albert Orest Bihary, 95, Portage, passed away Jan. 17, 2025, at home.
Born Aug. 13, 1929, in Binghamton, New York, he was the son of the Rev. Adalbert and Cornelia Olga (Koman) Bihary.
He is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Jane (Markovich) Bihary; children: Karen, wife of Thomas Kunko, Gregory Twiggs, and Jason, married to the former Sonja (Offman) Bihary; grandchildren: Krystle Kunko, Breanna Kunko and Alexandra, Morgan, Peyton and Reagan Bihary; great-grandchildren, Madison Heidler and Brennan Kunko; and nephews Brian and Steve Michaels.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joseph Bihary; and sister, Catherine Michaels.
He graduated from Portage Borough High School in 1947, where he was the captain of the football team and also played basketball. Al loved spending time with his family, golfing, bowling, gardening and sporting activities.
Al was a U.S. Navy veteran of the Korean War, where he was the recipient of the Purple Heart. He retired as postmaster from the United States Postal Service. He was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus and a member of the Portage AMVETS and American Legion.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 21, 2025, at Serenko-Claar Funeral Home, PC, Portage, where Panachida will be sung at 7 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 22, 2025, at Ss. Peter and Paul Byzantine Catholic Church, Portage, with Father James Spontak, celebrant. Committal at Ss. Peter and Paul Cemetery. Military rites will be carried out by the Portage Ritual Team.
