Lawrence D. “Larry” Smith, 83, of Hollidaysburg, passed away peacefully at home on Monday with family. He was born in New Kensington, son of the late Lawrence Edwin and Grace (Bayne) Smith.

He married Ruth Ann Fassett in August 1963 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, New Kensington. They were happily married for 47 years until her passing on Oct. 22, 2010.

Mr. Smith was a 1960 graduate of Ken Hi Senior High School and a member of St. Mark’s Church and Holy Rosary of Altoona.

He was a manager and salesman for ADT Security with 42 years of outstanding service until retiring in August 2003 (aka Mr. ADT Altoona).

Throughout the years, Larry was involved with St. Mark’s Boy Scout Troop No. 117, Community Action Wopsononock Summer Camp for PA Kids and donated his time to local agencies and St. Mark’s. Starting in 2005, Larry was part of restoring Dugan Cemetery (Plum, Pa.) and helping families locate buried loved ones for several years.

He enjoyed researching his family tree and collecting old photos and newspaper articles from Westmoreland County. Larry also enjoyed casinos, traveling and, most of all, talking with his children and grandchildren.

Surviving are two sons, Lawrence David (Jennifer) Smith of Natrona Heights and William Edward Smith of Dallas, Texas (fiancee, Heather, and her daughter, Destiny); daughter, Jane Elizabeth (James) Babiak of Duncansville; five grandchildren: Seth Daniel, Kyle Davis (fiancee, Cheyenne, and her son, Jase Alan), Kiersten Paulette (fiance, Christopher); Justin Nathaniel and Lawrence Morgan; great-grandson, Harlow Paul; sister-in-law, Kathy Smith of Brackenridge; brother-in-law, Willard “Bud” (Carol) Fassett of Arnold; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents and wife, Larry was preceded in death by his brothers, Thomas Smith and Raymond Smith.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 28, 2024, at The Rusiewicz Funeral Home, 3124 Leechburg Road, at Alder Street, Lower Burrell, where Prayers of Transfer will be said at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2024, followed by Christian Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of Czestochowa Church, New Kensington. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery, Lower Burrell.
