Brian Drew Leidy, 74, of Wellsboro, passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Sept. 22, 2024, at UPMC-Wellsboro. He was born Sept. 15, 1950, in Roaring Spring, the son of the late Robert G. and Mary Ellen (Blattenberger) Leidy. Brian married the former Deborah Foster on Sept. 5, 1970, and they have celebrated 54 years of marriage.
Brian was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, Class of 1968. He earned his bachelor's degree in psychology from Mansfield State College, his master's degree in public administration from Marywood University and his Doctorate of Philosophy degree in human service studies from Cornell University. Brian was a senior research associate for Cornell University, and recently earned his Emeritus status. Brian was a member of Salem Lutheran Church, Liberty. He was passionate about his family and politics. He volunteered at the local food pantry and at the Mary Putman Fitness Center. He exercised every day, including running and walking at the Wellsboro Cemetery. He also loved being in the woods and hunting. Brian was an avid fan of the Pittsburgh Steelers and Pirates and Penn State football.
In addition to his wife, Brian is survived by a son, Christopher W. Leidy of Smithsburg, Md.; daughters: Kelly Leidy Carson of Wellsboro, Jan F. (Howard) Rutledge of Wellsboro and Erin C. Leidy of Ithaca, N.Y.; a brother, R. Grant (Janese) Leidy of Shamong, N.J.; sisters: Coleen M. (David) Langguth of Altoona, Eileen R. McIlvaine of Farmingdale Township, N.J., and
E. Loreen (Danny) Wogan of Altoona; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Brian was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Jason Carson; and brothers-in-law, Joseph "Bud" McIlvaine and W. Brian Foster.
Friends and family are invited to pay tribute to Brian's life from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26, 2024, at Tussey-Mosher Funeral Home, 139 Main St., Wellsboro. A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at Salem Lutheran Church, 3536 Nauvoo Road, Liberty, with the Rev. Christopher Milarch officiating. Burial will follow at Wellsboro Cemetery.
