Stephen W. Thompson, 70, of Altoona, passed away Thursday at UPMC Altoona after an extended illness. He was a son of the late Harry E. and T. Jeanne (Cruse) Thompson.
On May 8, 1973, in Duncansville, he was united in marriage to the former Diana (Steiner) Thompson.
Along with his wife of 51 years, he is survived by children, Stephanie Butlin (Gary) of Altoona and Christopher Thompson (Marissa) of Altoona; and grandchildren: Austin Butlin, Trey Butlin, Maura Thompson and Lydia Thompson.
Stephen served in the United States Marine Corps from 1974-78. He was always proud to hold the title “Marine” and could often be heard saying “Once a Marine, Always a Marine.”
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Altoona.
In his free time, Stephen would often be found fishing or passing time with his model trains at home.
Per Stephen’s wishes, a funeral service was held at 5 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona, with Pastor Eli Hess officiating.
Burial was held privately at Alto-Reste Park.
