Robert P. Carey, 73, Altoona, passed away Saturday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late John A. Jr. and Georgette N. (Kelley) Carey.
He was preceded in death by his nephew, Jimmy Lego.
Surviving are his loving wife of 48 years, Mary M. (Johnston) Carey, whom he married on July 3, 1976; a son, Thomas J. Carey of Altoona; a daughter, Robin D. DeMackiewicz and her husband, Daniel of Palmyra; granddaughter, Diana DeMackiewicz; siblings: Gerald Carey and his wife, Edie; Joanie Romine and her husband, George; Barbara Benson and her husband, William; Mary Albright and her husband, Glenn; and Joseph Carey; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
Robert was a 1969 graduate of Altoona Area High School. He worked as a carmen/welder for Conrail and also helped his father with his business, Carey Furnace Co.
He was a jack of all trades, being able to work on anything, especially vehicles.
Robert enjoyed training his dogs, building computers, reading and helping anyone he could. Most importantly, he cherished spending time with his family.
Friends and family will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 2, 2024, at Jones Funeral Home, Altoona.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2024, at The Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Altoona, with Monsignor Stanley Carson as celebrant. Committal at Grandview Cemetery, Altoona.
