Rita De Carlo McCloskey

Rita De Carlo McCloskey, 84, Altoona, died Saturday at her residence surrounded by her loved ones.

She was born in Gallitzin, daughter of the late Dewey and Josephine De Carlo. On May 20, 1961, she married Regis McCloskey.

Surviving are her husband, Regis; her five children: daughter, Joan Banks; sons: Regis Jr. (Christine), David (Gloria), Sam (Wendy) and Steve (Nicole), all of Altoona; 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; a brother, David De Carlo (Janet) in New York and sisters, Matilda Capouellez of Altoona and Anna Marie La Judive in Ohio.

She was preceded in death by three sisters: Angeline De Carlo, Delores Girard and Clemetine Suders.

Rita worked at Vincent Horwitz Shoe Factory before becoming a dedicated mother to her children. She was a member of Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.

She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren, traveling, going to the casino and reading. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. Her grandchildren loved going to their Grandma's for holiday gatherings. She also hosted many New Year's Eve parties for the grandchildren when they were young. Everyone loved her homemade pizza and Italian sugar cookie recipes, which she passed onto to her grandchildren.

Rita was the rock of the family for her continual strength and support and made everyone's life easier. We will remember Rita for her kindness, love, and for always being present in our lives. We will miss Rita dearly, but we are so grateful for the time we had to spend with her and will always feel her presence in our hearts.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 9, 2024, at Santella Funeral Home, where a vigil for the deceased will be held. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament, Monsignor Stanley Carson, celebrant. Committal will be at Calvary Cemetery, Altoona.

To honor Rita, donations can be made to the Benevolent Fund at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament.
