Paula A. Johnson-Gill

July 23, 1957 – April 9, 2024

Paula A. Johnson-Gill, 66, of Duncansville, died Tuesday evening, April 9, 2024, at UPMC Altoona.

She was born in Bethesda, Md., a daughter of the late Carl E. “Jim” and Harriett (Moore) Fern.

She was first married to William D. Johnson III on Aug. 30, 1975, in Tyrone, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 23, 2011. She then married Michael S. Gill on Nov. 28, 2015.

Paula is survived by her husband, Michael; three children: Brian D. (Tricia) Johnson of Frederick, Md., Todd A. (Amy) Johnson and Mary D. Johnson, both of Altoona; three stepchildren: Matthew M. Gill of Wexford, Dr. Rachel B. Gill of Hanover and Michelle (Jamie) Ramano of Tyrone; eight grandchildren: Gabriella F., Isabella H., Elijah B., Sebastian W., Oliver B., Annabelle C., Mya L. and Quinn T.; three siblings: Pam (Ed) Ayers of Tipton, Penny (Jerry) Brunner of Bellwood and Patti (Harry) Mogle of Tyrone; and her mother-in-law, Delores R. Johnson of Tyrone.

Paula was a 1975 graduate of Tyrone Area High School and retired as a rehabilitation nurse’s aide at Health South, Altoona.

She was a former member of Trintiy United Methodist Church, Bellwood.

Paula was a volunteer on Precious Life Inc. mission trips to Romania, along with their director, the Rev. Scott Manganella.

She enjoyed flower gardening, attending Tyrone High School football games, occasional casino trips and autumn camping trips with her co-workers. She also enjoyed attending her granddaughters’ dance recitals and grandsons’ sporting events, motorcycle rides and traveling with her sisters. Her greatest joy was spending precious time with her grandchildren.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday, April 21, 2024, at Jon C. Russin Funeral Home Inc., Bellwood. A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A continued celebration of Paula’s life will immediately follow at the PPG Pavilion, Tipton, with a time of refreshment and fellowship.

The family suggests that contributions in Paula’s memory be made to Blair County Precious Life Inc., Altoona; or Smiles for Miles Foundation, Bellwood; or Central PA Humane Society, Altoona.
