Matthew Joseph Creppage, 76, Tyrone, passed away Sunday at UPMC Altoona surrounded by his family. He was born in Ironsville, the son of Matthew Frank Creppage and Doris Bathurst Creppage.
He married Connie L. Light on May 31, 1975, at St. Matthew’s Church, Tyrone.
Surviving are his beloved wife, Connie; daughters, Michelle Creppage-McCoy (Ronald) and Corinne Creppage (Pedro); daughter-in-law, Cheryl Creppage; grandchildren: Trenton Creppage (Katelyn), Isabella Creppage, Luke Matthew Creppage and Devin McCoy; great-grandson, Easton Matthew Creppage; sister, Joan McCloskey (Dave); brother, Bernard Creppage (Rose); many nieces and nephews; and other family and friends who loved him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard Lee Creppage; and a niece, Kimberly McCloskey.
Matthew was a 1965 Tyrone Area High School graduate and attended Penn College, where he received a business/accounting degree in 1967.
He was a member of St. Matthew’s Church, Tyrone.
Matthew started working at Long’s Dairy in Tyrone, then landed at Westvaco/American Eagle Paper Mill, where he retired at the age of 70 after 45 years of service.
He was an avid baseball player and loved to hunt with his dad, son and grandson. He also loved to fish with friends and family throughout his life. In recent years, you could find him most summer evenings at Tyrone Sportsmen with his daughter, Michelle; sons-in-law, Ronald and Pedro; and his grandkids, trying to hook a big bass.
Matthew also loved to watch his grandsons play baseball, support all their activities and root for the Pittsburgh Steelers while watching (and complaining) about the Pirates. Matt enjoyed get-togethers, holidays and cookouts with family. He looked forward to seeing everyone, telling a funny story and eating Reese’s cups with the kids. In his younger years, he loved to play softball, volleyball and dance the night away with his wife and friends at the Tyrone American Legion. Matt always had a great time and a smile on his face. He was loved by all who knew him.
He was known for his “Legend” status as a Beater Room Foreman and Supervisor at the Tyrone Paper Mill. He loved the work he did, the friends he made along the way and always had a cup of coffee in hand while there.
Friends will be received from 5 until the service outside of Mass at 8 p.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2024, at Derman Funeral Home Inc., Tyrone, with Father Michael Pleva officiating.
