Brian P. O’Donnell Sr.

Brian P. O’Donnell Sr., 70, of Ashville, died Saturday at UPMC Altoona.
He was born in Altoona, son of the late Bill and Ruth (Baker) O’Donnell.
Surviving are his wife, the former Tracy Thomas, whom he married Sept. 1, 2007, in Loretto; children, Brian Jr. (Emily Holtz) and Laura O’Donnell (Andrew McMullen); seven grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; siblings: Randy (Denise), Bevin (Ronnie) Cindy Eckenrode, Doug (Mary Ann) and Ruanne Surma (Jerry); and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Linda McConnell, in 1995; a granddaughter, Cadence McMullen; and a brother-in-law, Barry Surma.
Brian served with the Seabees in the U.S. Navy. He worked as a corrections officer for SCI Cresson and retired from SCI Pine Grove as a security captain in 2016 after 30 years of service. He was a life member of the Loretto American Legion.
He enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, hunting, his dogs and feeding his chickens.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 20, 2024, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, where a vigil service will be held. He was a member of Basilica of St. Michael the Archangel, Loretto, where a funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, 2024, the Very Rev. John D. Byrnes, celebrant. Committal will be at St. Michael Cemetery. Military rites will be provided by Loretto American Legion and other local military organizations.
