Ronald O. Reffner Jr., 80, of Roaring Spring, passed away unexpectedly Sunday morning at Conemaugh Nason Medical Center.
He was born in Knoxville, Tenn., son of the late R. Otha and G. Irene (Miller) Reffner. On April 22, 1967, he married Judy A. Theys.
Surviving are his wife; two daughters, Diane E. Reffner of Commerce, Ga. and Lynnea D. Jackson and husband, Scott, of Millville, Mass.; three grandchildren: Elias Unger, Sofie Jackson and Nevaeh Johnson; and a great-grandson, EJ Unger.
He was a 1961 graduate of the first class of Central High School and also graduated from the Altoona School of Commerce. He served six years in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard, attaining the rank of sergeant. Ron retired from Barkman Oil Company in Woodbury in 2010 after many years of service. He served as the bookkeeper for Barkman Oil and the Nason Hospital Gift Shop for many years. He was a member of Christ Church, Roaring Spring where he had served as an elder and a deacon and was the church treasurer for 30 years. He was a member of the Roaring Spring Lions Club and the Roaring Spring Historical Society.
Ron enjoyed walking throughout Roaring Spring and sports, especially Central High School, Pittsburgh Steelers and Penn State Nittany Lions. He was an avid reader and a 14 gallon blood donor for the American Red Cross. He especially loved spending time with his family.
Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 4, 2024, and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Friday, Jan. 5, 2024, at Christ Church, Roaring Spring, the Rev. Joel Kletzing officiating. Interment will be made in Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg. Military honors will be provided by the Blair County Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Ron’s memory may be given to Christ Church or the Roaring Spring Community Library.
