Effie Mae Allen

On Nov. 21, 1981, at the Spring Mount Church of the Brethren in Warriors Mark, she married Richard “Dick” Allen, who preceded her in death on Dec. 25, 2022.

She is survived by three children: Linda Wertz and Buddy (Barb) Stroup of Tyrone and Mitchell (Valerie) Stroup of Mobile, Ala.; a stepdaughter, Vicky (Steve) Lang; grandchildren: Chad Reese, Jessica Wertz, Travis Stroup, Kristie Smithe, Justin Stroup and Dustin, Mikayla and Michelann Stroup; three great-grandchildren; and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

Along with her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, Larry and Michael Stroup; and a grandson, Christopher Stroup.

Effie was a 1948 graduate of Tyrone Area High School. She was the Snyder Township secretary for over 20 years before retiring from the position. She was also a life member of Spring Mount Church of the Brethren.

She enjoyed spending time with her family more than anything and was very close to her grandchildren. She and her husband Dick were inseparable, and you rarely saw one without the other.

A memorial service for Effie Mae Allen will be held at a later date with an announcement to be made.
