Joanne (Galanick) Byrne, 84, of Ashburn, Va., formerly of Altoona, died Saturday, Dec. 9, 2023, at Inova Loudoun Hospital in Leesburg, Va. She was born in Coupon, daughter of the late Joseph and Mabel S. (Dixon) Galanick. She married William Patrick Byrne on June 9, 1962, at the Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament in Altoona.
Surviving are her husband of 61 years and two children, Michael William and wife, Carrie, of Fairfax Station, Va., and Amy Connelly and husband, Wayne, of Aldie, Va.; her sister, Joan Price and
husband, Russ, of Altoona; six grandchildren: Bradley, Megan, Thomas, John, Olivia and Tyler; and several nieces and nephews.
Joanne was a 1957 graduate of Altoona Catholic High School. She retired in 1993 after more than 20 years of service at the World Bank in Washington, D.C. She also served the White House in a supporting role during the Ford administration.
Joanne enjoyed her family and sharing her birthday with her twin sister, Joan, and oldest grandson, Bradley. She was also an avid communicator and knew exactly how to get things done in life, whether it was from East Berlin or her favorite chair at home. And she used her competitive mind to go for the grand slam playing bridge.
Friends will be received at a celebration of life in Altoona at a future date.
