Robert V. "Bob" Farabaugh, 87, formerly of Altoona, passed away peacefully in Alexandria, Va., on Nov. 17, 2023, surrounded by members of his loving family. He was born in Altoona, the only son of the late Clement and Marion Farabaugh.
Bob was the beloved husband of Jacqueline Farabaugh for 62 years; the loving father of John Farabaugh (Diana), Craig Farabaugh (late Donna) and Brett Farabaugh (Tracy); cherished grandfather of Michael, Kayla, Nolan and Emma Farabaugh; brother of the late Jeanne Cassarly and the late Nancy Mitchell.
Following graduation from Altoona Catholic High School in 1954, Bob joined the U.S. Air Force and served in Europe and northern Africa.
After four years of service to our country, Bob attended Saint Francis College, where he graduated with an accounting degree in 1962.
He married Jacqueline (Jay) in 1961 and they moved to northern Virginia, where Bob had a successful career with the Government Accountability Office. He retired from GAO in 1994.
Bob had a sharp mind and a witty sense of humor, but mostly, Bob had a deep devotion to his faith and to his family and left a legacy of three sons who are very close despite living in three different states around the country.
He was an avid outdoorsman, coached youth sports, was active in Knights of Columbus and other community and church charities and enjoyed preparing tax returns in his retirement.
A memorial Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 7, 2023, at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 6222 Franconia Road, Alexandria, Va. Inurnment will be private.
Arrangements are by Jefferson Funeral Chapel, Alexandria, Va.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Bob's name to Skin Cancer Foundation and/or Alzheimer's Association.
