Marshe Lorie "Rudy" "Mush" "Sissy" Barnes, 28, of Altoona, made her grand entrance into this world with her twin brother, Mante. She was born and raised in Altoona, the daughter of Rona Barnes and Carl Brevard.
Marshe wasn't your average Joe, she loved to hang and play sports with the guys. She was a star baseball, basketball, softball and rugby athlete. Mush was also a die-hard Steelers fan. Every Sunday, you could catch her with her Terrible Towel and black and yellow jersey.
She attended Slippery Rock University, where she studied English with hopes to pursue a teaching career.
You could constantly catch Rudy with a large contagious smile on her face. She was a proud member of the LGBTQ+ community, a feminist, but most importantly, a free spirit. Marshe refused to succumb to the box that society has set. She instead lived her life following her own rules and standards.
Marshe was loved dearly and will be missed by her mother; her father; a brother, Mante Barnes; a sister, Carlona Brevard; grandmother, Carol Brevard; and various aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Celebration of Life will be held from 1 to 5 p.m. today, Saturday, Nov. 11, 2023, at Homers Gap Civic Association.
