William V. Bogel Sr., 78, of Martinsburg, passed away Thursday at Homewood at Martinsburg after an extended illness. He was born in Nashville, Tenn., son of the late Ralph V. Sr. and Mattie E. (Fowler) Bogel.
On Dec. 24, 1967, he married Dorothy L. Smith. She preceded him in death on Nov. 3, 2019, following 52 years of marriage.
Surviving are two children, William V. Jr. (Tammy) and Victoria Goff (Stan); five grandchildren: Kera, Mattison, Colton, Tiersty and Peyton; a great-grandson, Shaddix; two sisters, Mary Imler and Margaret Foreman; and two brothers, Ralph Jr. and Charles Bogel.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Garlock; and two brothers, Jim and Mike Bogel.
Bill proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1963-66, attaining the rank of Seaman Apprentice and was a member of the D. Merl Tipton VFW Post 43, Martinsburg.
He was a dedicated employee at HH Brown Shoe Co. for over 50 years.
Bill loved spending time with his family (especially his grandchildren), and fishing and gardening. Over the years, Bill enjoyed playing his guitar and singing with his brothers. Just a few weeks prior to his passing, he was still singing to his precious great-grandson, Shaddix.
Friends will be received from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Oct. 16, 2023, at John K. Bolger Funeral Home Inc., Martinsburg. A private graveside service with military honors will be held at Fairview Cemetery, Martinsburg.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Bill may be given to Cove Cause for Cancer, 343 Ponderosa Lane, Roaring Spring, PA 16673.
