Shirley Ann Burk

Shirley Ann Burk, 81, of Walnut Street, Hollidaysburg, passed away Saturday. She was born in Roaring Spring, a daughter of the late Harry R. and Mary (Wertz) Deem. On May 12, 1972, she was united in marriage to Charles R. Burk.

In addition to her husband of 51 years, she is survived by a daughter, Maryann Burk, and her fiance, Charles Cook; a grandson, De'Charles Cook; siblings, Donna Brawley, married to Don and Gary Deem, married to Margie; sister-in-law, Bonnie Deem; and many nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Deem; and sister, Connie Cronemiller.

Shirley was a graduate of Hollidaysburg High School, Class of 1961.

She was employed at Butterick Co. Inc. until her retirement. After retirement, she went on to work for The YMCA Children's Center until her second retirement.

Shirley was a member of the Hopewell Senior Citizens Center in Hopewell, as well as a past ladies auxiliary member at the Lakemont Fire Company.

She enjoyed bus trips, going to casinos, bowling, testing her luck with scratch-offs and playing Bingo, but her greatest joy in life was spending time with her grandson, De'Charles.

Friends and family will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, 2023, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona; and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, Oct. 31, 2023, at the funeral home.

Burial will be held privately at Alto-Reste Park.

If friends so desire, memorial contributions may be made in memory of Shirley to the Hopewell Senior Citizens Center or the Lakemont Volunteer Fire Company.
