Marguerite A. (Magaraci) Poje

Dec. 3, 1929 – Sept. 5, 2023

Poje

Marguerite A. (Magaraci) Poje, 93, passed away Tuesday. She was born in Altoona, daughter of the late Francesco and Palma Rose (Raneri) Magaraci.

Marguerite graduated in 1947 from Altoona High School. She moved to Cleveland, Ohio, three years after marrying the late Richard J. Poje Sr. in 1951. Since 1966, she had resided in Elyria, Ohio, and became a member of St. Jude Catholic Church.

She is survived by her daughters, Danielle Davidson and Kathleen Bramwell; sons, Richard Poje Jr. (Tiffany) and Terence Poje; grandchildren, Shannon Latek (Joe) and Brittany Wishart (Jon); and great-grandchildren: Alexis and Luke Latek and Grayson Wishart.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her former husband, Richard Sr.; and her five siblings: Josephine Mannino, John Magaraci, Samuel Magaraci, Anthony Magaraci and Florine Grant; and sons-in-law, Roger Davidson and Gordon Bramwell.

Marguerite cherished the time she spent with her family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never relinquishing her role as fiery matriarch, teacher and enforcer of the golden rule.

She was an ardent believer in the value of an education, and chief storyteller of her Sicilian parents' and siblings' lives, Depression-era upbringing and memories of wartime and the best of times. "Silver and gold will vanish away, but a good education will never decay" is just one of many truths that echoed through three generations of her family for more than 70 years. "Don't overdo" was also heard often, accompanied by a firm look, as a reminder to stay focused on what it means to live well, be a good person and achieve true happiness in life and love.

Friends will be received from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 14, 2023, at Misencik Funeral Home, 36363 Detroit Road, Avon, Ohio.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Sept. 15, 2023, at St. Jude Catholic Church, 590 Poplar St., Elyria, Ohio. (Please meet at church and allow extra time due to road construction on Poplar Street). Interment will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery.

Arrangements are by Latek & Rybicki Family Funeral Homes, Broadview Heights, Ohio, a Golden Rule Funeral Home.
