James "Jim" Guy Sturniolo, 79, of Chesapeake, Va., passed away peacefully on Thursday with his loving wife and family at his side. Jim was born in Reading, the son of the late Frank James and Frances Helen (Bowman) Sturniolo. He was also preceded in death by a brother, William "Bill" Sturniolo.
Surviving are his wife, Alice, to whom he was married on June 8, 1968; two sons, Jason F. (wife, Lisa) and Aaron G. (wife, Monica) Sturniolo, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; four grandchildren: Olivia Bennett (husband, Brandon) of Norfolk, Va., Daphne, Andrew and Rebecca Sturniolo, all of Virginia Beach, Va.; and a great-grandchild, Lyra Rose Bennett of Norfolk, Va.; his sister, Gail Hook (husband, Mark) of Morehead City, N.C.; his brother, Gary Sturniolo (wife, Jan) of Hagerstown, Md.; and his sister-in-law, Barbara Sturniolo of Wilmington, N. C.
Jim received his master's degree in Elementary Education from Penn State University. He taught elementary school and later served as principal of Ebner Elementary School in the Altoona Area School District.
He was an active member of Great Bridge Presbyterian Church until his health prevented him from doing so. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today, Aug. 7, 2023, at Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, 653 Cedar Road, Chesapeake, Va. A celebration of his life will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 8, 2023, in the Chapel of Oman Funeral Home and Crematory, with his pastor, the Rev. Dr. Lou Ventura officiating.
