David E. "Dave" Rorabaugh, 79, Portage, passed away Tuesday at Conemaugh Memorial Medical Center, Johnstown. Dave was the son of the late Samuel and Hazel (Shetler) Rorabaugh. He grew up on the Rorabaugh farm near New Germany and graduated in 1962 from Central Cambria High School in Ebensburg.
Deceased family members include his parents; daughter, Deborah L. Rorabaugh; brother, Wayne Rorabaugh; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews.
Dave is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Dolores (Zock) Rorabaugh; daughters: Diane and her husband, Daniel Shuty, of Duncannon, Pa.; Danielle and her husband, Thomas Andolina, of Pittsford, N.Y.; and Donna Rorabaugh of Portage. He will be sadly missed by his grandchildren: Juliana Shuty, Nathan Shuty, Grace Andolina and Christopher Andolina; and grand-fur-baby, Sophie. Also surviving are sisters, Bonnie Leibfreid of Summerhill and Suzanne and her husband, Randy Widmer, of Pittsburgh; sisters-in-law, Kathryn Mackovyak and Regina Gillin; and many nieces and nephews.
Dave retired from UA Local 354 Plumbers and Pipefitters, where he was an active member for 47 years. He looked forward to his monthly retiree breakfasts with his work friends to reminisce and talk shop.
Dave enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, keeping up with world events, building campfires and gatherings with family and neighbors.
He was a lifetime member of the Jamestown Rod & Gun Club and was willing to help anyone with plumbing and furnace repairs. According to his grandchildren, he had the wisest 'Grandpa-isms' and wore the coolest welding hats and suspenders.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, June 23, 2023, at the Serenko-Claar Funeral Home PC, Portage, where funeral services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, June 24, 2023, with Father Thomas Stabile, TOR, officiating. Committal will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Portage.
