John F. "Jack" Cogan, 97, Duncansville, formerly of Greenwood, passed away Friday morning at The Winds at Mattern Orchard. He was the son of the late John W. and Violet (Chirdon) Cogan.
Jack married Marguerite Ferguson on March 1, 1947, in Niagara Falls. She preceded him in death on May 13, 2018.
Surviving are his son, John S. "Steven" Cogan (Peggy) of Altoona; his daughter, Cheryl Fronauer (Frank) of Davenport, Fla.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and his sister, Molly Kelley of Pittsburgh.
He was preceded in death by a son, Michael F. Cogan, in 2009; and his beloved nephew, Scott Edwards.
Jack was a graduate of Altoona High School and attended Penn State Altoona.
He was a United States Navy veteran, serving in the Pacific during WWII, receiving the Victory Medal and various honors, including the American Campaign, Asiatic Pacific Theatre and the Philippine Liberation.
Jack retired in 1988 as a supervisor from Conrail after 38 years of service.
He enjoyed traveling, but especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
At Jack's request, there will be no visitation or services. Entombment will be at Calvary Mausoleum.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
