Himes

It is with great sadness the wife of Dennis R. Himes Sr., a beloved resident of Hollidaysburg, announces his passing at home Friday after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Dennis peacefully departed this world surrounded by his loving family at the age of 76.

He was born the cherished son of the late Anthony Himes and Dorothy (Briggs) Himes. On Nov. 16, 1991, he exchanged vows with the love of his life and soul mate, Susie E. (Knisely) Himes, of Hollidaysburg.

As a hardworking professional, Dennis dedicated many years to the field of car sales. He was the proud owner and operator of Himes Auto Sales from 1985-2016. Additionally, he owned and operated Quality Snow Plow and lce Control Equipment lnc. from 1997-2012.

He was a life-member of the Heidelberg Country Club and the Bavarian Aid Society, both in Altoona.

Denny, as he was affectionately known, will forever be remembered for his kind and generous heart. He had a natural ability to connect with people, and his charismatic personality endeared him to everyone he encountered.

Denny's enthusiasm for hunting, car restoration, operating heavy equipment and snow plowing reflected his adventurous and hands-on nature. These passions provided him with not only moments of relaxation, but also opportunities to showcase his skills and leave a lasting impact on those around him. His dedication and expertise in these areas will always be remembered by those who had the privilege of witnessing his pursuits firsthand.

In addition to his beloved wife, Sue, Denny is survived by his two children, Dennis R. Himes Jr. of Mt. Pleasant and Lori (Craig) Taylor of Altoona; and his loving step-son, Donald Carnell III of Altoona; seven siblings; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and numerous sisters and brothers in-law, nieces and nephews.

Along with his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, David Himes; four siblings; and numerous sisters and brothers in-law.

The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Denny's oncologist, Dr. Rafic Farah at Hillman Cancer Center in Pittsburgh, and his staff for their exceptional care and support during Denny's illness.

Friends will be received from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 17, 2023, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona; and from 9 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Thursday, May 18, 2023, at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
