Jan. 31, 1930 – Sept. 24, 2022

Grazier

Robert Dalton 'Bob' Grazier, age 92, passed away Sept. 24, 2022, at Celebration Villa in State College. He was born in Grazierville, the son of Elise Alice Grazier and Robert Wolfe.

Bob was a 1948 graduate of Tyrone High School. He played football for the Golden Eagles and in his senior year, joined the Pennsylvania National Guard. Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Grazier trained as a machinist mate. He was particularly proud of the 3¢ years of active duty he served aboard the USS Taluga during the Korean Conflict.

In April 1952, Bob married Phyllis Sharpless of Sandy Ridge.

Upon being honorably discharged from active duty, Bob entered an apprenticeship program with General Electric in Erie. While living in Erie, he joined the Navy Reserve. Bob accepted a position with GE in Cleveland, Ohio, and it was there that Bob and Phyllis adopted their son, Kevin.

Robert moved to Detroit, and left GE a few years later. He took a position as a machinery repairman at Ford Motor Co., where he worked for the next 25 years. Bob was active in the Boy Scouts and coached both youth football and basketball. He was also active in a Model A restoration club.

Robert retired from the naval reserve as a Chief Warrant Officer (CWO-4) in 1986, with a combined active duty and reserve length of service of 39 years.

After retiring from Ford Motor Co. in 1992, Robert and Phyllis returned to Tyrone. There, Robert was active in the American Legion and the VFW. His strong sense of patriotism led him to become active in the Tyrone Korean War Veterans, where he regularly served on the color guard detail at funeral services for deceased veterans.

In his life, Bob was gregarious, hard-working and had a great sense of humor. He was a true patriot, a family man who was always willing to lend somebody a hand whether he knew them or not.

Robert passed from Alzheimer's dementia and complications of COVID-19.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Phyllis, in 1997.

Surviving are his son, Kevin, who currently resides in Huntsville, Ala.; and sisters, Sarah V. Elicker and Brenda J. Becker, both of York.

It was Robert's wish that there be no funeral held in his honor, but rather requested a burial at sea by the U.S. Navy.
