Walter Lee Filer, 87, of Altoona, passed away Tuesday at Select Specialty Hospital, Johnstown, after an extended illness. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Harris Walter Filer and Dorothy Margaret (Lukens) Filer.
He married Shirley Ann Smith on June 30, 1956, in Winchester, Va. She preceded him in death on Dec. 10, 2022.
Surviving are two daughters, Marciann Filer Day and Colin in Tennessee, and Wendy Jo Filer and Daniel Adams of Altoona; a son, Walter Lee "Buddy" Filer Jr. and Becky of Roaring Spring; a brother, Joseph Filer of Altoona; five grandchildren: Chase Day, Terra Moore, Matthew Filer, Sabrina Carson and Adam Stoehr; and nine great-grandchildren.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Shirley; a brother; and a sister.
Walter was a member of Jaggard United Methodist Church, Altoona.
He was a machine operator at Small Tubes Products Inc., retiring after many years of service.
At the request of the deceased, there will be no public viewing. Interment at Grandview Cemetery.
