Michael Charles Smith, 54, of Alexandria, passed away Tuesday at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, son of the late Charles Francis Smith and Nancy Elizabeth (O’Connor) Smith of Alexandria.

He married Anita Marie Moyer on Oct. 8, 1994, in Huntingdon.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by five children, his pride and joy: Michaela Knepp and her husband, John-Michael, of Martinsburg; Jared Smith of Alexandria; Halee Smith of Alexandria; Olivia Smith of Alexandria; and Charlee Smith of Alexandria; four sisters: Christine Farabaugh of Alexandria; Amy Shinafelt and her husband, Dennis, of Huntingdon; Amanda Smith-Rorher and her fiance, Dennis Morgan, of Mechanicsburg; and Gretchen Yost and her husband, Bill, of St. Augustine, Fla.

He was preceded in death by a brother-in-law, John Farabaugh.

Michael was a lifetime resident of Huntingdon County. He taught at Juniata Valley High School and was the owner of RealTree Landscaping.

He graduated in 1987 from Juniata Valley High School and continued his education at Penn State, obtaining his bachelor’s degree in Landscape Contracting and a secondary degree in Science and Agriculture. Michael furthered his education at Saint Francis College by obtaining his Master’s Degree in Education and his Principal Certification.

Michael played football for Penn State. He enjoyed coaching football, track and basketball while at Juniata Valley. He also coached AAU Dynamite Basketball. Michael was a big supporter of the Blue Juniata FFA and the Shavers Creek 4H Club. He was an avid Steelers fan and loved farming, hunting and the outdoors.

He was also a member of R Camp and Globe Run Rod and Gun Club, and was inducted into the Huntingdon County Sportsman’s Hall of Fame.

Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Cutright Funeral Homes-Smithfield Chapel, 313 Fairgrounds Road, Huntingdon.

A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, March 5, 2023, at the funeral home. James Foster and Pastor Chris Garretson will officiate.

Private interment at Shaffersville Cemetery, Alexandria.
