Dean G. Marcaurelle, 73, of Altoona, passed away at his home Wednesday morning after a three-year struggle with ALS/Lou Gehrig's Disease. He was the son of Roland A. and Mildred F. (Davis) Marcaurelle.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother, Don.
Surviving are his wife of 36 years, Betina (Muccitelli) Marcaurelle; four daughters: Amanda (Phil) Kim, Megan (Cody) Jones, Myra (Bill) Foutris and Jenilyn (Kenneth) Jensen; a sister, Debra (Robert) Farrell; eight grandchildren; three nieces; a nephew; two great-nieces; and two great-nephews.
Dean graduated in 1968 from Danvers High School, and later from Northeastern University in Boston.
He was a practicing physical therapist for 40 years and served in a number of roles including: Inpatient Supervisor and Head of the Spinal Cord Injury Unit at New England Rehabilitation Hospital, Woburn, Mass.; Chief of Physical Therapy at Shaughnessy Rehabilitation Hospital, Salem, Mass.; and Administrative Director of the Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the Center for Sports Medicine, the Neurology Department, and overseer of the Sleep Laboratory, Non-Invasive Laboratory and Cardiac Rehabilitation Department, at Altoona Hospital. He loved his work with patients.
Dean's interests were many, and included travel, antique and classic cars, motorcycling and flying. He owned and flew an ultralight airplane for 25 years. He enjoyed helping and spending time with family, especially time with his wife, who he dearly treasured.
He was a 36-year member of Grace Bible Church, where he served a number of years as a trustee and enjoyed working and horsing around with the guys on the "Wednesday Morning Work Crew" and with his flying buddies.
The family would like to thank his Altoona and Pittsburgh Physicians, the UPMC ALS Clinic specialists, the ALS Association of Western PA, Altoona UPMC Family Hospice, and all their friends, who offered great support throughout his illness.
Friends will be received from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 3, 2023, at The Good Funeral Home Inc., 108 Alto-Reste Park, Altoona; and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, April 4, 2023, at Grace Bible Church, 164 Laurel Lane, Hollidaysburg.
