Don Krise

May 7, 1925 – Feb. 22, 2023

Don Krise, 97, of Hastings, formerly of St. Augustine, died Wednesday while sleeping peacefully at home. He was born in Chest Springs, son of the late Ray and Idamae (Hollen) Krise.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Genevieve (Buck), on Sept. 30, 1994; son-in-law, David Yackuboskey; infant grandson, Joseph Thomas Jr.; infant granddaughter, Jennifer Thomas; infant great-granddaughter, Rainbow Elash; and these brothers and sisters: Sister Colman Krise RSM, Robert, Lewis (June), George, Verda (Tom) Britton and James; brothers-in-law: Robert Lauer, Wib Adams, Jack Rossman, Pete Stoy and Joe Wirfel; and special friend, Mary Hudson.

Surviving are daughters: Donna Krise of Hastings; Diana (Joe) Thomas, with whom Don resided in Hastings; Sue (Jim) Uhron of Youngsville; and Kathy (Doug) Reiter of Shelocta; 11 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; brothers and sisters: Leonard (Shirley) Krise of St. Augustine, Mary Jane Lauer Adams of St. Augustine, Jerry (Nancy) of Carrolltown, Jean Wirfel of St. Augustine, Joan Rossman of Hollidaysburg, Pat (Jean) Krise of Greensburg and Tom (Grace) Krise of St. Augustine; and a sister-in-law, Bertha Krise in Virginia. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews.

Don enjoyed hunting with his family in St. Augustine and ballroom dancing.

He retired in 1964 from the U.S. Marines after 20 years of service. He served during WWII in the South Pacific. He then worked four years for Patton Motor Sales and 15 years as a mail carrier in Patton Borough. Don retired in 1984.

He was known for keeping excellent weather records for over 35 years. He was a member of the Patton American Legion, Patton VFW and St. Augustine Catholic Church.

Friends will be received from 3 until 7 p.m. Sunday, Feb 26, 2023, at Gibbons Funeral Home, 1688 Liberty St., Ashville, where a Vigil Service will be held. Military Rites will be in the charge of Patton VFW and Patton American Legion.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 27, 2023, at St. Augustine Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jerzy Auguscik as Celebrant. Committal at St. Mary's Cemetery, Patton.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to St. Augustine Catholic Church, 803 St. Augustine Road, Dysart, PA 16636 in Don's memory.
