Stanley Alden Bishop

Stanley Alden Bishop, 82, of Bellwood, died peacefully early Monday, Sept. 26, 2022. He was born in Klamath Falls, Ore., a son of the late Spencer and Mina (Snyder) Bishop.

On April 17, 1965, he married Florinda Tenorio in San Antonio, Texas.

Surviving are his loving wife of 57 years; his daughter and best friend, Alison (Michael) Bishop-Amato of Bellwood; three grandchildren: Amanda (Paul Gore) Gerhart of State College, Calvin (Ginger) Amato of Tyrone and Zach Amato of New Concord, Ohio; two great-granddaughters, Mollie Dakota and Raienn “Ray”; and a multitude of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by eight siblings.

Stan was a 1957 graduate of Lake Washington High School in Kirkland, Wash.

He held various degrees and certificates in history, education, management and several foreign languages. Stan’s degrees were earned from the University of Maryland, the Defense Language School, University of Nebraska Omaha and Ball State University.

Stan retired from the U.S. Air Force serving 20 years as a language analyst, German instructor and Cold Warrior. After his retirement, he worked in the defense industry, as well as the National Security Agency. He also taught Cross-cultural and International training at Penn State and developed multimedia tools for learning foreign languages at HRB Systems (Singer/Raytheon).

Stan was fluent in many languages, including German, Spanish, Serbo-Croatian, Arabic and Italian. He visited 58 countries, where he collected a plethora of interesting rocks during his travels, and touched the lives of countless people with his incredible sense of humor.

Friends will be received from 10 to 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, 2022, at Hillside Community Church, Bellwood. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at the church, with Pastor Ashley Shook officiating.

Inurnment will be at Arlington National Cemetery.
