Kenneth Roy Carter Sr.

Kenneth Roy Carter Sr., 73 of Altoona, died Saturday evening at UPMC Altoona. He was born in Altoona, a son of the late Roy Franklin and Shirley (Graffius) Carter.
He married Theresa Anita Selby on June 21, 1969, at Lowrey Air Force Base Chapel One, Colorado. They recently renewed their wedding vows at Champion Life Church, having spent 53 years in marriage.
Surviving are his wife, Theresa; four children: son, Kenneth R. Carter Jr.; son, Kevin R. Carter, both of Altoona; daughter, Kelly R. Feather (Dan) of Hanover; and son, Keith R. Carter (Salina) of Altoona; six grandchildren: Justin, Jenna, William, Danielle, Kelan and Aveleen; a great-granddaughter, Serenity Mae; and three siblings: Dennis Carter (Rebecca) of Fairfield, Pa.; Brian Carter (Jeannie) of Altoona, and Tina Miller (Steve); and numerous extended family members and friends.
Kenneth was preceded in death by a brother, John Carter; and his in-laws, William and Geraldine Selby.
He was a 1967 graduate of Altoona Area High School.
Mr. Carter was a U.S. Air Force veteran serving ten years active duty, six years with Intermedics, and then 12 years in the U.S. Army Reserves. During that time, Kenneth was employed in radar, sonar and as a mechanic.
He retired from the electronics testing department of C-COR Electronics.
Kenneth enjoyed reading, cooking, baking, sewing and camping at the Gettysburg Battlefield Resort. He loved spending time with his family, most especially with his grandchildren.
He was a former eagle scout, and he also was the lead singer of the Altoona Horseshoe Chorus.
Kenneth’s final act of kindness was to be an organ donor at his death.
Friends will be received from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, July 21, 2022, at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona, where a funeral service will be held at
7 p.m. with the Rev. Clyde Pilkington officiating. Military honors will be accorded.
Interment will be made at Alto-Reste Park, Altoona.
