Ronald J. Benton Sr., 80, Altoona, passed away Thursday at home surrounded by his family after a long battle with cancer. He was born in Beaverdale, a son of the late James S. and Velma (Corl) Benton. He married Margaret Ann Ickes on Oct. 19, 1963, in Leamersville.
Surviving are his wife, Peg Benton; four children: Ronald J. Benton Jr. (Samantha) of Duncansville, Tammy Foor (Brad) of Bellwood, Terry Benton (Tina) of Duncansville and James "Pee Wee" Benton (Yetta) of Altoona; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a brother, Carl Benton (Karen) of Altoona; a sister, Delores Franklin of Indianapolis, Ind.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by five brothers: Sherwood, Jay, Don, Wayne and Ed Benton; and a sister, Mae Hillagis.
Ron retired from Beavertown Block in 2007, where he worked for 43 years.
He enjoyed trips to Florida, camping, fishing, spending time with his family, racing when he was younger and being a mechanic for his grandsons' race cars.
Friends will be received from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, April 4, 2022; and from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral service Tuesday, April 5, 2022, at Brown Funeral Home & Cremation Services Inc., Duncansville. Pastor Lynn Johnston will be officiating. Interment will take place at Carson Valley Cemetery.
