Roderick ‘Roddy’ Ross Thompson

Roderick “Roddy” Ross Thompson, 35, died tragically on Feb. 7, 2022. He was raised by his mother, Dorothy and a wise and loving stepfather, Mark Mitchell.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather; and four siblings: Carrie Lolas, Danyelle Thompson, Sonya (Butch) Zeigler and Wesley Thompson. Roddy was a good uncle to many nieces and nephews and was part of a large extended family, including his grandmothers, Carol Wyerman and Betty Williams and his grandfather, William Tillett.
He was preceded in death by his father, Roderick Thompson; and grandparents, Charlie Wyerman, Carole Tillett and Robert and Gail Thompson.
Roddy was a 2005 graduate of Hollidaysburg Area High School, where he excelled in soccer and cross country sports. He worked as a CAD mechanical engineer and later, as a chef, but outdoor life called to him. Hiking, camping and especially climbing were his passions.
Roddy will be remembered fondly for his kind and selfless nature, his infectious laugh and his beautiful aqua blue eyes. He was always ready to lend a hand to anyone in need of help.
The family will receive guests from 3 to 4 p.m. Thursday, March 3, 2022, at Providence Presbyterian Church, 2401 Broad Ave., Altoona, with a funeral following. A remembrance of Roddy is planned for a warm, sunny day this spring at one of his favorite hiking spots.
